This epic romance is one for the ages, with its foundation of love and commitment, set against a backdrop of cultural customs and tradition. One couple’s struggle with the conflicts arising from cultural differences forms this classic tale of enduring love, an unforgettable journey that touches your heart and soul. The story starts in the 1940s in Rajasthan, India where Shivam (Rajkumar Rao) is an ordinary farmer who falls in love with Baijal (Kriti Kharbanda). He later proposes to her and traditionalist Baijal is unsure of accepting his love. Shivam then gives her a letter that he wrote for Baijal, which his brother reads out to put Baijal at ease. After this, they marry and have two children named Keshav (Pulkit Samrat) and Laxmi. A few years later, tragedy strikes the family when an untimely death befalls Shivam. His youngest son, Keshav is now an adult with a wife Shakuntala (Shraddha Das) but no children. He, along with his sister Laxmi, stay with their grandparents in Rajasthan. Meanwhile Shammi (Pratham Doshi), the eldest brother, returns from England to visit them. As they are about to leave for their ancestral home in Gujarat, another tragedy strikes the family when Shammi's estranged wife Selvam (Mohini Kommu) dies after falling from a cliff. Shammi and Laxmi go back to stay with their grandparents while Shakuntala stays behind as she is pregnant. While in Gujarat, Shammi meets and falls in love with newlywed Sudha (Namrata Pathak). Later when Keshav and Shakuntala arrive in Gujarat, they too meet and fall in love with Sudha and her husband. Over time, they realize that it is impossible to live with their in-laws and decide to elope together. They then decide that everyone will return to their marital homes and collect their belongings and then meet at a railway station where they can all leave together. Shammi makes the arrangements to leave but on the day of the train, Laxmi gets ill. She is later diagnosed with leukaemia. Shakuntala and her husband find out about Laxmi's illness and go to Gujarat to stay with them, fearing that she might die prematurely. Shammi meanwhile goes to meet Sudha's mother (Sudha) who is Laxmi's grandmother, who is also the sister of Shivam. She tells him that both Shivam & Baijal died a few years ago after a massive fire destroyed their home. Shammi then travels back to Rajasthan where he meets a woman whom he doesn't know, Sita (Deepika Tikoo), who claims to be Shivam's widow from an earlier marriage.
